Not Making Money Online?
Written by admin on February 25, 2009 – 7:43 pm -I was 9-years old when I saw a vision of me retiring around my 40th birthday. Since then I had a passion to run my own business and become successful.
Like an eager beaver, I carelessly threw money away on product after product starting at the age of 19. Without knowing it, I was being “Pimped for Profits” and began my journey of not making money.
You see, the people who were selling me the information did not twist my arm to buy it. Yet, the benefits they mentioned coupled with my strong desire to succeed and my unwavering confidence always had money coming out of my pocket.
To be honest, I fell for the hype. I believed (blindly I might add) everything I read. I never considered for a second that it would not work because if they could do it so could I. I reasoned, “I am far from stupid and am willing to put in the time.”
As I think back, I can only laugh because I was so naive. I do not know what made me think that I could run a business when I did not know the first thing about business.
All I knew was the basic industry jargon for the stock market. Somewhere in the back of my head I figured, “I could do anything if I set my mind to it.”
When I would reach a point where I did not make money or it took a lot more effort than I was willing to put out what do you think I did?
I would start looking for another opportunity that I felt would be easier and make me money faster. Boy was I wrong.
One failed opportunity after another and my stubborn butt did not learn. I just kept running head first without a plan. I just figured it would work if I work it.
There were no systems in place. Nothing!
The money was flowing from my bank account to other people’s pockets. And I did it willingly too!
It wasn’t until I finally figured out what I truly enjoyed doing and discovering how I could make money doing it that things begin to change. However, me being “Pimped for Profits” was far from over as I entered a new market and once again fell for the hype.
Here’s what I begin to learn after couple of years spending money…
…everytime you want to learn something new you tend to find a product or service that offers you the opportunity to learn it. But I kept buying stuff with the “hope” that I would use it later.
What I begin to realize is, “If I did not have a need for it right now I do not need it.”
I have to tell you it was truly difficult for me to control my spending but I slowly did it. It took about a year or so. There were a few products I purchased but no as much was spent like the previous years. I could honestly say that I cut my buying expenditures by 80%.
A simple technique was mentioned above that I want to help you to understand as it will save you a ton of money.
When you see a product or service and you feel this burning desire to get it now take a step back and ask one question, “Will I use it today?” If you can honestly say, “No!” Do not get it.
It will be hard because there may be a sale and you believe you will use it in the near future. However, if you check your previous buying patterns (and hard drive) you will probably have products you purchased 6-months ago and that you have not used yet.
Now if you have a plan, working that plan and know that within a week or two you will need the product or service to help you complete a project then you may be able to get it. But once again, you have to be absolutely sure you will use it.
Don’t say, “Yeah, I need that because I will get to that part by next week or the week after” when you know you haven’t completed the first part that should have been done already. You get my point?
I call this approach “Purposed-Centered Purchasing” or P.C.P.
It works because you only buy what you need when you need it and when you plan to use it. For a small business and home-based business owner this is critical since most of your funding probably comes from your credit card or paycheck.
It took me a while, but I learned to control my spending.
As I look at the online marketing landscape, I see product after product being pitched to business owners who do not have a clue as to what works and doesn’t. Consequently, they purchase with the hope that it will work not realizing it will take some time and effort.
“If there was really a short cut don’t you think everyone would be making money in their own business marketing online?”
In my opinion, almost every product or service helps to make your life easier and may speed up the process a little but you still have to go through the process. Anyone who tells you different, in my opinion, is lieing to you so you can be “Pimped for Profits.”
